Good for you! You want to travel around the world and you want to do it on the cheap, so where do we start? Well, lets start with your life as it is now. You probably have some debts, a job, rent to pay, other bills and a few other things that call for your responsibility, right? Well get rid of them.

One way that I have found how to make travel cheap is by doing it for an extended period of time makes that plane ticket A LOT cheaper. A $1000 plane ticket for just 3 weeks of travel is quite painful, especially when you consider all of the expenses that you still have back home. But when you stretch that ticket over 10 months and there are NO expensive back home, traveling becomes cheap, DIRT CHEAP, just how we like it :)

So how to go about this? Well, first you need to get rid of all of those nasty bills back home. Got debt? Pay it off or set up a payment plan that will pay for some of it while you’re away. Phone bill? Cancel the contract or wait for the contract to expire and get a new phone when you get home. Rent? Forget about it! don’t resign your lease and put all of your stuff in storage,
OR EVEN BETTER!
Is sublet/ rent out your place as FURNISHED and charge a higher amount then you pay now! That can give you the extra bit of $$$ to get you by when you get abroad.

The basic idea is to make your expense be 0 for back here at home, while you still have money in the bank OR EVEN BETTER is that you make money off your place while you are gone. If you can apply for a leave of absence or a sabbatical at you job, great! If not, then be prepared to quit your job… Trust me, you can always get a new, and usually better job when you get home.

Now you want to start thinking about where it is exactly that you would like to go and why. Get to thinking about that and we’ll talk later about how to actually get there for cheap.
